The Raytown Amateur Radio Club again operated the ARRL Field Day from the grounds of Raytown City Hall in Raytown, Missouri. We participated in class 2A again this year and were able to improve upon most of our previous performances. Pictures are located in our Field Day 2005 Photo Gallery . Field Day started off in the traditional fashion with the setup crew meeting for an all you can eat taco lunch at a local restaurant on Friday. The remainder of Friday afternoon was spent doing the Field Day grunt work, setting up shelters, assembling antennas and erecting towers. Station setups included a 36 foot communications trailer with a 70 foot tower from the Missouri Department of Transportation for the G.O.T.A. station, a 40 foot tower and the City of Raytown's mobile Command Center truck for the CW HF station, a hi/lo trailer and 70 foot crank-up tower for the HF SSB station, and a home made trailer and 30 foot tower for the uhf/vhf station.
While most of the setup team worked on the stations, other club members setup an information booth and picnic area. This area was setup in the center of the Field Day site to provide a focal point for visitors to meet club members to meet and socialize.
With the antennas up in the air by early evening the setup crew called it a day, leaving the remaining tasks such as hooking up radios until Saturday morning. Starting early, but not too early, on Saturday the remaining setup tasks were taken care of and the entire site was ready to get on the air by noon.
